The Big Spring community is grieving the loss of Devin Rickabaugh, whose passing has prompted an outpouring of heartfelt tributes from classmates, lifelong friends, and loved ones.
As news spread, social media quickly filled with memories celebrating a man many described as an exceptional husband, devoted father, loyal friend, and someone who always brought warmth and positivity to those around him.
Rickabaugh was known by many in the Big Spring area from his childhood through adulthood. Friends recalled growing up with him, playing sports together, attending school, and later watching him build a loving family of his own.
Their messages reflect not only the sorrow surrounding his passing but also the lasting impact he had on countless lives.
Lifelong Friends Remember His Kindness and Character
Among the many tributes shared was one from longtime friend Nate Wardle, who said his heart sank after receiving the news of Rickabaugh’s passing.
Wardle recalled that their friendship began in kindergarten while playing sports together on the Oak Flat playground. They remained close throughout elementary school, middle school, and high school, something he noted is not always common as people grow older and their lives take different paths.
He described Rickabaugh as someone who was always full of life and enjoyable to be around. Years later, they reconnected while helping organize the Big Spring High School Class of 2006’s ten-year reunion.
Looking back, Wardle said he admired watching Rickabaugh become a family man, adding that from afar it was easy to see how much he loved his wife Amanda Jo and their children.
In his tribute, Wardle wrote, “My thoughts and prayers go out to his wife, Amanda Jo, his kids, his parents, his close friends, and all who knew and loved him. What a painful loss for our class.”
Heartfelt Tributes Reflect a Lasting Legacy
Many others echoed similar emotions as they shared their memories.
Deanna Wiser Rhinehart posted a brief but emotional message that captured the heartbreak felt by many, writing, “I cannot find the words. Just that I love you forever Devin.”
Tyler Smith remembered Rickabaugh as an amazing father, husband, and loyal friend whose family always came first.
In his tribute, Smith reflected on the many conversations they shared over the years, especially about hard work. He smiled while remembering how Rickabaugh would joke that younger generations did not know what real work looked like because they now had machines to do jobs that once required determination and physical labor.
Smith recalled the days they spent unloading tractor-trailer loads of mulch by hand using wheelbarrows, adding that Rickabaugh often laughed, saying, “We were the machines.”
He concluded his message with an emotional farewell, writing,
“There will never be another like him. I am blessed to have known you man. I’m gonna miss you brother. God’s grass must have been getting weedy. He called the best. Miss ya and love ya bro till we meet again.”
The tributes paint a consistent picture of Rickabaugh as someone who valued friendship, embraced hard work, and devoted himself to his family above all else.
As friends, classmates, and relatives continue to mourn, their messages stand as a lasting tribute to a life that touched many. Though his passing has left an enormous void, those who knew Devin Rickabaugh say his kindness, laughter, and unwavering love for his family will never be forgotten.
